ANSI Class 2 vs Class 3: What's the Difference?

Because Class 3 requires arm coverage, it's typically a long-sleeve shirt, jacket, or rain suit rather than a simple vest. If you only have a vest, you must wear approved reflective arm sleeves with it to meet Class 3.

ANSI Class 2 vs Class 3: FAQs
Can I wear a Class 2 vest when the site requires Class 3?
No. If your employer or the job specification requires Class 3, a Class 2 vest doesn't meet the requirement. At minimum you'd need to add approved reflective arm sleeves to reach Class 3 coverage — but the cleanest solution is a Class 3 long-sleeve garment.
What do Type R, Type O, and Type P mean?
