The standard classifies garments into three performance classes based on how much background material (the bright fluorescent fabric) and retroreflective material (the shiny tape) a garment has, and what kind of work environment it's intended for:

  • Class 2 — mid-level visibility: for workers near roadways with moderate traffic speeds.

  • You're in construction, warehousing, surveying, airport ground operations, or parking/traffic control

Can I wear a Class 2 vest when the site requires Class 3?
